"Everybody Built This Community"
By Mary Brown
Excerpts from the Redmond Spokesman~Golden Jubilee Edition 1955

"Everything you see around you in the Redmond Community is the proud possession of people who have lived and worked here for 50 years.  Even your own home is their possession as well as yours, because they made it possible for you to build it.....The story of Redmond's 50 years is the story of people.....This is the community in which those people sought lifetimes of security and happiness.  How they fared in that search is the only story that really counts.

Very evident when these stories were being gathered was one thing all of the tellers have in common: a fierce pride of everything that has gone into this community, and in their part in putting it there.

Behind all this individual effort, of course, there had to be more than pride and willingness.  These were essential, but they had to be channeled.  That required purposeful leadership, combined with patience and unfaltering confidence."

As we start on the next 50 years, if there's any one thing we've learned from the last 50, it's that the people have always been ahead of the leaders.  All that the people have ever asked is for sound improvement programs to be presented.  They do the rest.

We know just how much Redmond has changed in these last 50 years! Redmond Downtown Partnership is eager to begin the next 50 years.  Join us!
